Latest Update: Kevin Smith was just featured on ESPN’s First Take as the most under-rated and under-publicized RB in NCAA football.
Junior Kevin Smith is averaging 163.33 rushing yards per game (third nationally) this season through three contests. After racking up 124 yards and three touchdowns against Memphis, Smith’s season totals vaulted to 490 yards (10th nationally) and seven rushing touchdowns (tied-sixth nationally). Smith rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns in a narrow defeat to No. 6 Texas on Sept. 15. He opened the season with a career-high 217 yards in the 25-23 victory over NC State. Smith’s effort in Raleigh was the third best single-game effort by a Knight and his 80-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening play
from scrimmage was the longest rush in school history. A Doak Walker Award candidate, Smith was one of two running backs named to the coaches’ preseason All-Conference USA first team. Smith’s strong start has put his name with some elite company on the NCAA active career rushing leaders chart. He is one of only five upperclassmen in the nation to be averaging at least 100 yards per game in his career.
